The three Umlaut letters used in the German alphabet (ä,ö and ü) are actually modified vowels that significantly influence the pronunciation and at times the meaning of a word. Umlauts cannot be replaced by simple vowels in German; Doing so would distort the word's meaning and hence their usage are very important for effective listening, speaking, and reading. At FITA Academy, learners get ample hands-on experience and use of real-life examples to learn Umlauts in the correct and natural manner.
